Eager Readers Initiative

We have been promoting reading throughout Scoil Niocláis, as part of our Eager Readers Initiative. Class libraries have been updated with novels and picture books.  We have added to our sets of class novels also.

Thanks to the generosity of parents, we have been able to avail of funds raised from Cake Sales, to purchase Read at Home books for 2nd to 6th classes.
1st to 6th classes have enjoyed visits to Douglas Library last year . Classes  attend library events such as  when  local author and Scoil Niocláis past pupil, Daniel Heaphy, read  and discussed  his novel, ‘Breanne 1975’  with 6th class.

World Book Day is a colourful event in Scoil Niocláis. Many pupils dress as favourite characters from books. Pyjamas, blankets and favourite books are brought to some classes and it certainly is a  whole-school celebration of books and reading!
Our Senior Infant pupils have been enthusiastically borrowing class library books to take home.  Our 6th class pupils have created some wonderfully creative posters, which are displayed around the school, to inspire and encourage us to read.

In Term 2 we have our annual Book Fair in which classes create wonderful Book Displays to inspire pupils to read. The school purchases books from Scholastics for classrooms following this fundraising event run by our S.N. P.A.
